Inauguration of the WORLD's FIRST 'Sage Patanjali' Temple at Bellur, Karnataka, India.

The world's first Sage Patanjali temple was inaugurated by Guruji, in Bellur, on 31st October 2004.

The Bellur has an immense importance to Yogacharya BKS Iyengar (Guruji) because he was born in this village.

A wonderfully carved, black stone idol of Sage Patanjali was installed on this day, in the sanctum sanctorum of this temple.

The Sage Patanjali temple is a part of Temple complex, which consists of 800 year old Hanumana temple, Lord Rama & sita temple along with other 2 temples.

Bellur is soon going to become a place of pilgrimage for all the Iyengar Yoga students. Everyone can experience the importance of this village, as they perceive it. In the years to come, we will also see it noted on the world map.
